Photography can be a lonely endeavor! Sometimes photography is our escape, our way to process our realities. Many of us fine peace, understanding, and creativity in this solitude. There is a powerful magic that exists in controlling exactly what our eye sees through our viewfinders on our way to creating whatever the hell type of image we want!

As much as solitude is essential to grow as photographer, collaboration can help us consider things we didn't really know existed. Collaboration is great especially when partnered with a like-minded creative driven by the same goals. That is exactly what the 2022 Collective of Closing the Gap did!

Students were partnered with one another on teams of two. Each student would then make an image as a starting point...any image they wished. Students on each team would then "trade" images. Now they would make an image that was a Slant Rhyme based on their partner's image. Finally, the two images that "rhymed" were assembled on a diptych. This creative exercise was inspired by Alex Webb and his wife Rebecca Norris Webb. You can see their stellar work here: https://www.magnumphotos.com/arts-culture/art/alex-webb-slant-rhymes/

Below are our humble attempts.
