One of my biggest life regrets is that the photographs I have of my children when they were young are, well, not very good. Like a lot of us, my journey started when my oldest was my only--but I didn't really think to use my nice camera properly or even pay attention to light and composition until much, much later. I was born and raised in Virginia, met my husband at American University in Washington, D.C., and started working as a freelance copyeditor and proofreader while living in New York City and working at a big publishing house. Photography has dominated my second act in life. There is always something to learn, something to try, something to preserve. Life with kids can get busy and it runs fast, and I love knowing those memories are there for me when I need them, on some future date, safely ensconced in a picture.
